BAJAJ PULSAR 135 DTS-I REFRESHED IN JUST 8 MONTHS OF IT’S LAUNCH

Bajaj Auto is into the act again and this time, it injects some botox into the still very fresh looking Bajaj Pulsar 135 DTS-i. The baby pulsar, whose launch was under eight months ago gets a few cosmetic as well as mechanical upgrades that are intended to be more of functional bits rather than ones that are purely cosmetic. The full rear tire shroud gets discarded for a two piece item that in my opinion looks hideous to say the least.

If not anything, Bajaj’s latest gimmick of having a two piece floating rear tire hugger only spoils the very sharp and clean looks that the first gen Pulsar 135 as endowed with. Now, the rear end seems like a crowded clutter with plenty of unnecessary bits and pieces. While Bajaj’s design department has botched up the tire hugger design, it needs a pat on the back for the new o-ring based low maintenance chain that the Pulsar 135 DTS-i now comes with.

While most people believe that o-ring based chains requires no maintenance, I would like to prick the bubble here. While o-ring chains use the o-rings to trap the chain lubricant and thus ensure that the lube stays on the chain for a longer time than say the non o-ring chains, the o-ring chains require regular oil. Albeit, the interval at which a o-ring chain requires lubrication is much higher as opposed to a non o-ring based one.

This, being the major difference between o-ring and non o-ring chains, results in the former being much more long lasting and low maintenance. Thus, the Bajaj Pulsar 135 DTS-i getting the o-ring is a welcome change and tagging along with this change is the half chain cover which also makes it’s debut after replacing the full chain cover of the first gen Pulsar 135. These are the three major changes Bajaj Auto has effected onto the four valver Pulsar 135 DTS-i and going by the looks of it, first gen Pulsar 135 owners also might be able to shoehorn the upgrades onto their machines.
